DataDrive2030 is seeking a researcher or research team to conduct a desktop literature review on behaviour change to inform how data can better drive action in South Africa’s early learning ecosystem.
This research will support our work to bridge the gap between data and action, helping stakeholders across the sector translate insights into improved practice and decision-making.
We invite proposals from South African academic institutions, behavioural science consultancies, and independent researchers with expertise in behavioural theory and experience applying behavioural science in development or social change contexts.
While access to data and evidence in the early learning sector is increasing, insights alone do not necessarily lead to action.
This research will explore how behavioural science can help inform strategies that motivate and enable stakeholders to adopt data-informed practices and decisions.
The review will examine:
How behaviour change is conceptualised across disciplines
Behaviour change theories relevant to social intervention and systems change
Lessons from successful behaviour change initiatives, ideally including examples from South Africa and the education sector
This study will form the first phase of a broader research programme exploring how behaviour change unfolds among actors in the early learning system.
The selected consultant will produce:
A 30–50 page literature review report with strategic recommendations
A 2–3 page executive summary
A presentation to the DataDrive2030 team summarising key insights
Duration: Approximately 8 weeks from appointment
Budget: Up to R60,000
We welcome proposals from applicants with:
Expertise in behavioural theory
Experience applying behavioural science in development or social change contexts
Familiarity with systems-level change
Ability to translate theory into practical insights
